Is College Algebra a requirement at all colleges?

College Algebra is not a requirement at all colleges. The course requirements are based on the selected major or degree plan. While earning college credit is important, a passing score on the CLEP College Algebra exam has other benefits, too!

  1. Ensures placement in College Algebra or higher. This means the student cannot be placed in remedial courses.

  2. Can boost your application in the admissions and scholarship selection process.

Most students don't know which college they will attend or their major until at least 11th or 12th grade. Therefore, our general recommendation is, upon completion of Algebra 2, all students use the CLEP Professor prep course, then take the CLEP College Algebra exam.
