Did the student score a 70 or Higher on the last 5 Tests?
YES: You can try using our Remediation Plan to repeat the last 30 lessons or you can re-take Algebra 1 using Shormann Math (see below)
NO: Fluency (speed and accuracy) in Algebra 1 skills is essential for learning Algebra 2. I recommend reluctant and struggling math students re-take Algebra 1 using Shormann Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry. Here's why I recommend Shormann instead of Saxon:
- Shormann Algebra 1 earns 1/2 credit of geometry (Saxon only has 1/3)
- Has interactive assignments with auto-grading and video solutions that make learning faster and easier
- Provides better preparation for Shormann Algebra 2, which earns the remaining 1/2 credit of geometry, teaches every concept on the PSAT, SAT, and ACT, as well as the CLEP College Algebra exam (can earn 3 college credits). Learn More: Saxon vs Shormann
FAQ: If I repeat Algebra 1 with Shormann Math, can I skip some of the lessons?
No, because Shormann Algebra 1 has many concepts not taught in Saxon like, more geometry, technology applications, computer math, and over 100 Algebra 1 level practice problems from the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. To ensure students develop mastery and fluency required to excel in Algebra 2, Dr. Shormann recommends starting with lesson 1 and completing all the lessons.
FAQ: If my student already took Algebra 1, then takes Shormann Algebra 1 & 2, how do I list them on my transcript?
Upon completion of Shormann Algebra 1 & 2, students earn 1 credit each of Geometry, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. If using a Subject Transcript, simply list these credits in the Math section. If using a traditional transcript that lists credits by year, list the original Algebra 1 course when it was taken, list Shormann Algebra 1 as Geometry, and list Shormann Algebra 2 as Algebra 2. To assign the grade for the Geometry credit, use the average of the grade for Shormann Algebra 1 and 2. Learn More: Transcripts & Credits
