It is best to switch to Shormann Algebra 1 as soon as possible. There is no need to complete your current Algebra 1 course.
Can I skip some of the lessons?
Because Shormann Algebra 1 integrates geometry and algebra and includes 21st Century topics not found in other Algebra 1curriculum, all students should start with lesson 1 and complete all assignments as instructed. While this may seem redundant, there will be a lot of new concepts. And for the ones your student has already learned, the review will develop and maintain fluency (speed & accuracy while learning these new topics. Fluency raises scores on standardized tests and makes learning new concepts faster and easier!
Because students earn 1/2 credit of geometry in Shormann Algebra 1 and the remaining 1/2 credit in Algebra 2, students do not take a stand-alone geometry course. Therefore, starting over with Shormann Algebra 1 won't take any longer than if you continued the traditional three year sequence of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Integrating geometry means students won't stop learning algebra to learn geometry. They will learn both together which increases fluency in both skills. Not only does this make it easier to learn both, they learn how to apply algebra to geometry like the PSAT, SAT, and ACT require. Learn More: Why is integrated Geometry better?
